Fred missed the 100th Anniversary weekend of the Red Sox because he was on his 25th Anniversary trip with his wife. The Red Sox asked him to throw out the first pitch on his next foray into Boston. He did just that on May 11, 2012. e was greeted by current Red Sox centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and second basemen Dustin Pedrioa.
